Biography: Edgar Dutra Zanotto, Brazilian, is a professor at the Federal University of São Carlos (Brazil). He serves as the Director of the Center for Research, Technology, and Education in Glass Materials at the Federal University of São Carlos. He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, the World Academy of Ceramics, The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and the Brazilian Academy of Engineering. He is also a member of the International Commission on Glass (ICG) Standing Committee and the ICG Technical Committee on Crystallization of Glasses, and is recognized as one of the world’s leading glass materials scientists.
Prof. Edgar Dutra Zanotto is primarily engaged in fundamental research and applied technology of glass materials. He has published over 450 papers in journals such as Chemical Reviews, Progress in Materials Science, and Acta Materialia, and has led or participated in more than 40 major national research projects. He holds 26 patents. His research on bioactive glasses, optical glasses, and transparent glass-ceramics has achieved industrialization, with performance indicators reaching world-leading levels. He has received 62 international and domestic awards, including the ICG President’s Award, the Gra-Cruz and Comendador Awards, the COMENDADOR Award (Brazil’s highest honor in science, technology, and education), the Admiral Álvaro Alberto Award (Brazil’s highest scientific award), and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Prize in Engineering Sciences.
